Is dissertation necessary for PhD?
Yes, it is a requirement to receive a doctorate degree. The student/candidate must know how to contribute information into the body of knowledge. Some doctorate programs may ask for a capstone project or a final paper but at the end of the day, a capstone is just as difficult as a dissertation. Plus, once you have written one it is a testament of your hard work in which you can share with other PhDs. Most may receive honorary degree BUT with this they can NEVER use the word doctor behind their name.
